Camp Connect for High School Students
Monday, July 19 through Friday, July 23, 2021
“Without focusing and getting to clarity you cannot lead. You cannot motivate. You cannot plan. You cannot communicate.”
Camp Connect is a 4-day virtual camp designed for high school migrant students. Students will gain leadership skills and strengthen academics around STEAM and allow student’s unimpeded access to build relationships with other campers, feel safe and secure, and establish rapport with the instructors and other staff.
Camp Connect will be a life affirming experience that changes the way students think about themselves, their education and connection with those around them. Using a STEAM model – science, technology, engineering, and math – students will create and present a webpage as their final project, reflecting the outcomes of their experiments and experiences.
Throughout the camp, there will be a series of workshops, seminars, motivating speakers, and hands-on activities. Students will have opportunities to imagine, envision and focus on redefining themselves as leaders, with guidance and examples.
At the conclusion of the camp, students will have a plan for immediate action regarding positive change and the knowledge of how to find needed resources within their communities to continue to develop these skills, which are vital to their future academic and professional success.
STEAM Curriculum
STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, arts and math as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. Students well rounded in STEAM are better prepared to take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!
Camp Vision
The vision of the camp is to guide students in creating virtual connections that will enable them to become self-regulated learners and critical thinkers, preparing them for the future using a virtual learning platform and obtain innovative workforce skills to affect the communities they live in.
